TREATMENT SERVICES

treatment sessionTurning Point’s first substance abuse treatment program—a 10-bed residential program for men—began in March 1975.  Since then, we have treated more than 35,000 clients and have grown to offer a range of services for adults who are struggling with addiction.

We provide exceptional treatment for clients with complex combinations of substance abuse and co-occurring mental illness.

All of Turning Point’s treatment programs are based upon the patient placement criteria established by the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM).

Detoxification

Turning Point offers sub-acute, medically monitored detoxification (“detox”) from opiates and alcohol. All clients are assessed for continued treatment either within Turning Point’s continuum of care or  in another licensed treatment provider.

Clients with co-occurring disorders (substance use and mental health disorders) are detoxified from alcohol or opiates and stabilized on their psychotropic medications. The average length of stay varies based upon the severity of the client’s condition.

Short-Term Residential Programs

lounge areaOur Short Term Residential Programs vary in length of stay; treatment can range from several weeks to two months, depending on the client’s assessed needs and progress toward treatment plan goals.  We provide services for both men and women with co-occurring disorders (substance use and mental health disorders). Several treatment approaches are used to guide clients on the road to recovery:

  • Individualized treatment planning based upon the client’s assessed needs
  • Individual and group counseling
  • Psycho-educational sessions
  • Psychological consultation, psychiatric evaluation and medication monitoring when clinically indicated
  • Family education and counseling for the loved ones of our clients, addressing the impact of addiction on the family unit.
  • Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous and other self-help meetings.

We encourage our clients to structure their free time so they can complete assignments, enjoy recreation, and participate in workshops such as stress and anger management, meditation, yoga and others.

Specialized Services for Women: Our short term program offers a specialized unit for women, including women who are pregnant or post-partum.

Criminal Justice Program (Drug Court Initiative)

It is a fact that substance users arrested for a non-violent crime are more likely ultimately to lead a sober, productive life if they receive treatment for their drug use rather than go to jail.  With this in mind, the State’s Division of Addiction Services (DAS) has contracted with Turning Point to provide treatment as part of the New Jersey Drug Court Initiative managed by the NJ Department of Law and Public Safety, Administrative Office of the Courts. Turning Point’s program is designed to help non-violent, drug-involved offenders break the addiction/crime cycle  and to lead a more productive lifestyle.

Outpatient Treatment Services

Turning Point offers Outpatient and Intensive Outpatient Treatment Services in Verona at 96 Pompton Avenue. These services include assessment, client education, individual and group  therapy,  family education, family therapy , and referral  to other programs and organizations. The Outpatient Program staff  also offer consultation, addiction education and training to the local community. Through our Intensive Outpatient option, Turning Point offers intensive day or evening services (three to five days per week for three hours a day). Generally, clients in this program require more intensive treatment initially, then gradually less intensive treatment  as the client progresses in his/her recovery. Our services for clients with co-occurring disorders (substance use and mental health disorders) are specifically designed to treat clients with both a primary substance use disorder and a psychiatric disorder.
