WHO WE ARE
Turning Point offers compassionate treatment for men and women who are addicted to alcohol or drugs, including
- Those who also struggle with mental illness (“co-occurring disorders”)
- Those who cannot afford to pay for treatment
- Women who are pregnant
- Women who have just had a baby
We show men and women struggling with addiction exactly what they need to do to become clean and sober, and how to stay on the road to recovery. Since 1975, Turning Point has provided substance abuse treatment to nearly 40,000 New Jersey clients.
Our Approach
Turning Point aims to help each client
- Cope with their addictions and
- Develop the tools they’ll need to manage the ups and downs of everyday life.
We immerse our clients in a supportive, structured and non-judgmental environment. We look at all of their needs—physical, psychological, social and spiritual—and create a plan for care unique to each person, combining
- The traditional Twelve Step model
- Individual, group and family counseling
- Education groups and
- Other treatment methods.
We treat clients with respect and dignity from the moment they walk through our doors. We hire only experienced, certified counselors, supervisors and medical staff. Our staff includes both recovering and non-recovering people, ensuring a balance for our clients.
A Brief History
Before 1975, New Jersey residents who could not afford private residential treatment for alcoholism had to travel to Graymoor in upstate New York for help. Turning Point’s founders were determined to change this situation. They opened a 10-bed residential program for men on March 17, 1975 in Cedar Grove.
Over the years, the treatment needs of substance abusers became more complex. Turning Point responded again and again, expanding and adapting its programs. In 2003, the agency’s accomplishments were recognized when Turning Point was selected by the National Council on Alcohol and Drug Dependence of New Jersey and the White House’s National Office on Demand Reduction as the “model treatment program” to launch President Bush’s faith based initiative. Accreditation
CARF, which stands for Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities, is the federal agency that ensures the highest possible standards among agencies that offer rehabilitation services. If an agency has CARF accreditation, it means that it pays constant attention to the quality and effectiveness of its programs and uses feedback from its clients to keep that quality high. You can place your confidence in programs and services that carry CARF accreditation.
Turning Point is CARF-accredited for Integrated Behavioral Health (substance abuse and mental health) treatment in the following areas:
- Detoxification
- Residential Treatment
- Outpatient and Intensive Outpatient Treatment
- Drug Court Treatment
Turning Point received special commendation from CARF for exemplary efforts to advocate for clients and to eliminate the discrimination and stigma associated with addiction and mental illness.
